Auxiliary Firefighter
The Santa Fe Springs Fire-Rescue Auxiliary Firefighter program provides Fire Academy graduates an opportunity to apply their acquired skills and gain insight, while preparing for a fire service career. Auxiliary Firefighters respond to emergency calls, conduct mini-drills and skills demonstrations, maintain apparatus, equipment and fire stations, participate with training and public education, and perform miscellaneous duties.
The minimum requirements for a position as an Auxiliary Firefighter are as follows:
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid California Driver's License with a good driving record
- Valid CPR Certification/Card
- Valid EMT Certification with a County Accreditation
- Graduate of a California State Fire Marshal Accredited Fire Academy
- Ability to volunteer weekly for one twenty-four hour shift (on an assigned day)
Hiring Process (Continuous as needed)
- Application Process
- Step one – Apply online at Government Jobs
- Step two – Upon approval & contact by Human Resources, complete an Auxiliary Firefighter interest form and email it to: SFS Fire-Rescue
- Step three – Qualified candidates will be contacted for an oral interview
* Applications that are incomplete and lack minimum requirements will be rejected
- Interview Process
- All qualified applicants will receive an oral interview Physical Agility (Proof within 6 months)
- Biddle Physical Agility (7:20 passing time)
- Selection
- Auxiliary Firefighter selection will be based on the combination of the above
- Medical Exam and Live Scan through Human Resources
- Orientation
- Includes Fire Department orientation, roles and expectations lecture, mask fit testing, gear and uniform distribution
